Ingrid Mortensen
Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

Ingrid Mortensen is a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern (RMHCI) who earned her Master of Science in Professional Counseling Psychology from Florida International University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University, with minors in Health Administration and Sociology. She is working towards licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor receiving supervision from a Qualified Supervisor.

Ingrid believes therapy should be a space where clients feel comfortable being themselves, talking openly, and feeling supported without judgment. Her style is warm and collaborative, with a focus on meeting each client where they are. She works with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, behavioral concerns, and everyday life stressors. Ingrid remains mindful of each client’s culture, identity, family, values, and life experiences, and values working with people from all walks of life in a way that feels respectful, supportive, and centered on their goals.

Before beginning her master’s program, Ingrid worked as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to children and adolescents on the autism spectrum. During graduate school, Ingrid continued working with children and families through Florida International University’s Center for Children and Families. She trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), working with young children and caregivers to strengthen their relationships and address behavior concerns.

Ingrid also worked with FIU’s Summer Treatment Program (STP), where she supported children through positive reinforcement and behavior management strategies. She co-facilitated group therapy sessions with caregivers using the School Readiness Parenting Program (SRPP), helping parents learn useful skills and strengthen their child’s school readiness in preparation for the classroom.

Her experience later expanded to working with adults at Henderson Behavioral Health, where she provided individual therapy services and co-facilitated psychosocial rehabilitation groups. Ingrid has experience using approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

Her additional clinical training includes Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Psychological First Aid. Ingrid speaks English and Romanian, intermediate level proficiency in Romanian.
